Over the past year I have been really interested in mobile technology. We have all seen how it changes our daily lives. It's an awesome technology that will continue to evolve and get better and better.
Because I work strictly in the healthcare industry as do most of you, I have been following NextGen Healthcare with where they are taking their business and what's new and exciting for users that use the EMR and EPM system daily. One of the areas of development that I am really interested in right now is the NextGen Mobile solution. This is a website that is optimized for mobile browsers like the iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices, that allow you to access some of the NextGen EMR features. I would love to play with this on my iPad and see how it works, what you can do and what you can't do. Currently none of our clients use this system so I haven't been able to play with it.
If you haven’t heard, the Affordable Healthcare Act of 2010 promises to transform healthcare costs and services in America. Towards those goals, it has issued a slew of regulatory mandates with implementation deadlines looming over the next few years. Central to its strategy of making healthcare execution more efficient are the development of electronic medical record (EMR) technologies, which will eliminate costly manually processing of paper-based transactions, and the establishment of data communication standards, which can enable seamless information transfers across all the healthcare networks – from providers to insurers to suppliers and payment processors – while ensuring personal privacy.
NextGen focuses on empowering individual clients to improve their current EMR environments, but the wider-reaching effect of electronic medical records is slowly becoming clear. While many Americans are currently struggling to find and keep jobs, the EMR industry promises massive job growth for the country.
