Tutorials The Basics Active Image

Active Image

Active Images are used in place of buttons, where you can create a custom image that describes the purpose of the button. For example, often you see within the NextGen templates a small image of a drop-down arrow box. When you click on that button, there is a trigger that says, "on click, go to field - fieldName" and you are then prompted with a drop-down or a picklist.

To add and Active Image, click the Active Image icon from the Fields toolbar, and drag it to the template design area where you want to be placed.  The properties for active text image are very simple, the first thing you need to do is select the image you want. For this is ample on to me was the very first one which is called 1 Drop down.

This is an active image that I often use when creating a drop-down menu. From looking at it at first glance it indicates to that there is a drop-down list associated to the field on the left.
Another common example on the KB M Templates is found in the top left-hand navigation on almost all the templates.

These four icons are active images. They each have triggers on them that perform different tasks. The keyboard is used for sending e-mails, the phone icon launches the telephone_call template.

You're probably wondering if you can create your own custom images. The quick answer is “Yes”, but it is not as simple as it sounds. There is another NextGen application called Image Region Editor where you can import your BMP files and create your active images. I will create a separate tutorial on how to do this.
